I went to GDC this year and it was a good experience. I’ll try and do a write up soon.

Last week I got the opportunity to go to an advance screening of Dreamwork’s “How to Train Your Dragon” and it was really great as a 2D film; everyone at DW did beautiful work and I’m looking forward to checking out the 3D version to see how it compares.

I’m now fully digitally outfitted with a brand new Android phone, Twitter account, and Deviant Art page. Between all of those things and Facebook and Flickr and Vimeo and this site, I’m still trying to sort out what content I post where and why. I sure feel like a real San Franciscan though.

I’m currently a little over halfway through my story term at AM. The class lectures often suggest movies that you should check out to better understand the concepts being presented. Since Netflix now offers movies online and on Xbox, this was super easy and has forced me to watch a lot of movies I’ve been meaning to see for a long time.

There’s been a lot of Hitchcock, Welles, etc… the things you would expect from a film class. There have also been some newer movies too though. So far my favorites out of that group have been Fight Club and LA Confidential. They both deal with issues of masculinity, they are both set in very specific times in American history. However, Fight Club feels like a movie that only could have been made in pre-crash America and is still screaming its message at us today, while LA Confidential already feels like a timeless classic. It’s amazing to me that they were made only 3 years apart.

To counter all this education, I’ve also increased my geek cred by watching the first couple seasons of the BBC’s new version of Dr. Who. I never saw the old one, so now I get the jokes. I wouldn’t call it Shakespeare, but it was enjoyable in a “Buffy” sort of way and I would like to see the actors in other things which puts it a big step above most tv shows. I mean, how can you not respect a show that will openly quote The Lion King and blatantly copy the funeral pyre scene from Return of the Jedi?
