Happy 2009!

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I spent today working on this site, as the most recent Wordpress update caused some problems. Mostly I have everything patched back together (I even fixed the Internet Explorer problem from 2 posts back) however the css is still only partially cleaned up, and the slideshow option in my ‘Other Work’ section is broken and will likely remain so until the plugin author finishes moving to his new flat and writes a fix. Please let me know if you are finding anything weird going on, keeping in mind that the top of the page says “character animator” and not “web developer” for a reason, heh.

So to make up for a lack of functionality I’ve added content, specifically fleshing out the ‘Other Work’ section and getting more ready to post- you’ll be seeing many updates to the ‘Design’ and ‘Reel’ sections very soon.

Have a safe and happy new years everyone! Now excuse me, I have to go seriously celebrate the end of ‘08.

Merry Christmas

Code renovation in process

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

If you are visiting my site with Internet Explorer right now, my apologies.

I am currently changing over my blog to a winter theme and much better typography.  I thought as long as I was changing the visuals, I would clean up some of the hack-o-licious css in the WP template I’ve been using. An unfortunate and hopefully very temporary side effect is that the navigational sidebar is missing in IE.

I hope in the end the improvement in the site will be worth this temporary downtime.

Richard Williams in San Francisco

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I was going to do a write up of the Richard Williams lecture/presentation that the local ASIFA chapter put on, but this post on their blog pretty much covers everything I was going to write:

It was a bit crowded/stuffy/hot in the theater, and I’m kicking myself for not prepping questions in advance, but overall a fun time was had by all. I’m looking forward to the Eric Goldberg event that will be happening next month.

Why don’t we have these in San Francisco?

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

One of the not so good things about my first trip to Siggraph several years ago was the almost total absence of vegetarian friendly food in downtown LA. This year, the recent revitalization of the downtown area meant veggies were much easier to come by. Several days I grabbed lunch at this awesome convenience store just blocks from the convention center- Famima! Pocky and melon rolls? Check. Ume onigiri and soba noodle soup? Double check. Tempura donburi and steamed mushroom dumplings? Also check. The staff was super friendly and the prices were right for an animation student on a budget who still wished to get something healthier for lunch than the burgers and frightening pizza offered at the convention center’s food courts.

I am frankly surprised that one of these has not opened up in San Francisco. Maybe they fear the competition from the politically well connected chain of Quickly (corporate motto: we will put anything in a deep fryer) franchises?

Anyway, if you are ever in the LA area and need a quick hot lunch I suggest you check Famima out.

Updating to the next version of Wordpress today

Hopefully everything will go smoothly, but the possibility for chaos and site downtime exists.
